Continuing Education Courses
In-Person, Webinar, & Online
IPA offers continuing education courses for professional counselors, school counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, addiction counselors, and psychologists. Training content is also relevant for nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, case managers, administrators, and other health professionals. In-person courses and live webinars are regularly scheduled and scheduled based upon demand and/or specific request by an organization. In-person courses are held throughout the Kansas City metro area and can also be held at your facility. Courses are also offered online in a self-paced format which include a narrated power point presentation or a recording of an in-person training.
Individualized For You
IPA provides training to organizations and individuals upon specific request. Training can be scheduled at your location, at an offsite location, or at a facility that IPA has partnerships with. Training topics include, but are not limited to, trauma-informed care, clinical assessment, treatment planning, staff burnout and self-care, mental health awareness, and many other topics. Let us know if you have a specific request and we will strive to assist with that too. These individualized training courses are useful for mental health facilities, substance abuse treatment centers, physician practices, hospitals, dental offices, non-profit organizations, schools, and any organization serving our community. Training is about supporting staff and creating an informed and effective work environment, so it is also relevant for organizations that do not directly serve clients, patients, or customers.
Clinical & Business
IPA provides consultation services for clinicians and organizations. Consultation can be provided one time, on an as needed basis, or scheduled ongoing for a period. We offer consultation for clinical and business matters (i.e., private practice, program development). Consultation can be provided by phone, at the Consultant's location, or the Client's site. Clinicians can request clinical consultation for specific client cases or for more general topics such as building on interventions/techniques to use with clients, developing professional behaviors, increasing self-awareness, or gaining more complex and integrative assessment and diagnostic skills. Additionally, consultation can be provided related to private practice, documentation, supervision, and other business logistics. IPA also provides consultation to organizations for development and implementation of new programs, evaluation of existing programs, and assessment for improvement of services such as clinical assessment, treatment planning, trauma-informed care, and specific policies and procedures.
For Professional Counselors in MO & KS
Dr. Brewer provides clinical licensure supervision for provisionally licensed professional counselors (PLPCs) in Missouri and licensed professional counselors (LPCs) in Kansas. Dr. Brewer's approach to supervision is founded in developmental and educational models of supervision. Attention to the supervisory relationship and supervisory roles are critical to these approaches, requiring her to be intentional, proactive, and flexible. Supervision interventions are tailored to supervisees’ developmental, cognitive, and conceptual levels, as well as the supervisees’ motivation, skills, and personal attributes, while ensuring the needs of the client(s) are met. It is Dr. Brewer's goal to provide a balance of challenge and support based in a collaborative relationship with the supervisee.
IPA provides contracted clinical services by professional counselors, clinical social workers, and psychologists in various settings including at an academic institution for at-risk youth. Specialized trauma-focused clinical services can be provided at your setting or our offices. If you would like to explore adding or expanding clinical services at your facility, let us know and we'll be happy to explore the options available to meet your needs.
We offer NeurOptimal® Neurofeedback at IPA because it helps clients learn to manage a variety of issues and promotes overall wellness. We use the NeurOptimal® system, developed in 2000, specifically because it allows the client and their brain to decide what it needs rather than a protocol or clinician making that decision. Our goal is to help bring the client's Central Nervous System back to the present where they can be more effective, flexible, and resilient.
